Crux was appointed to design a new Technical Training Academy to support JLR’s evolving global training requirements. The academy was conceived as a multi audience environment, supporting internal technical teams, external partners, and suppliers, while enabling the rollout of innovative technologies and standardising knowledge across regions.
Rather than a conventional training facility, the ambition was to create an adaptable learning environment capable of supporting theory, demonstration, and hands on physical training within a single, coherent spatial framework.
The ambition was to create a high performing environment that supported scientific research, collaboration, and client engagement within a single integrated setting.
As technology, vehicles, and systems continue to evolve rapidly, JLR required a training environment that could keep pace. The academy needed to support formal teaching, digital learning, live demonstrations, and physical, vehicle-based training, while remaining secure, safe, and operationally robust.
Crux’s role was to translate abstract training objectives into a spatial system that could be delivered locally while aligning with global expectations for quality, consistency, and governance.
Crux approached the project by first understanding how training would be delivered across different audiences and learning styles. This intelligence informed the planning of teaching rooms, flexible training spaces, demonstration zones, and workshop areas, ensuring smooth transitions between theoretical instruction and hands on application.
“A technically rigorous, secure, multi-audience environment that evolves with JLR’s changing technologies—without ever feeling institutional.”

Key Features
Purpose built training academy supporting multiple learning modes
Designed for internal teams, partners, and external stakeholders
Integrated teaching, demonstration, and workshop environments
Training spaces designed to evolve with changing content
Security, safety, and equipment standards embedded from the outset
The design accommodates digital and hybrid learning alongside physical training, allowing content to be updated without requiring fundamental spatial change. Social and breakout spaces were intentionally designed to reflect the language and atmosphere of adjacent hospitality environments, reinforcing a sense of continuity across the wider campus.
Crux worked closely with security stakeholders to ensure the academy remained safe for visitors while meeting best practice standards for equipment use and operational control. The design was also informed by learnings from nearly 60 laboratory environments previously delivered for JLR, allowing Crux to anticipate servicing, safety, and operational requirements early.
The completed Training Academy delivers a flexible, future ready learning environment capable of supporting evolving training needs. It enables consistent knowledge transfer, accelerates technology adoption, and provides a clear platform for scaling training programmes across regions.
“A flexible academy built to evolve with JLR”
— Former Customer
The project demonstrates how training environments can be both technically rigorous and adaptable, without feeling institutional or constrained.
This project highlights Crux’s ability to design training environments as strategic assets rather than static facilities. By aligning learning objectives, safety, and spatial logic, we help clients create academies that evolve alongside their people, technologies, and ambitions.
At Crux, training spaces are designed to grow, not date.
