Crux was appointed to design Catherine Deane’s first flagship boutique, creating a spatial expression of the brand that could support both immediate commercial needs and long-term global expansion.

Located within a listed building in Wapping, London, the project required a sensitive response to architectural constraints while delivering a calm, intimate, and emotionally intelligent retail experience aligned with the brand’s mission: to create a world where women feel beautiful and valued.

This flagship space became both a physical destination and a strategic reference point for future boutiques worldwide.

The flagship boutique marked a critical moment for Catherine Deane. As the brand continued to grow internationally, there was a need to capture and protect what made the in-person experience distinctive before expansion introduced inconsistency or dilution.

The challenge was not to create a theatrical showroom, but to design an environment that felt protective, calm, and deeply personal, while remaining commercially viable, technically robust, and repeatable.

Crux’s role extended beyond design into experience definition, spatial logic, and long-term brand stewardship.

“A calm, intimate sanctuary where architecture, emotion, and brand align—designed to honour each bride’s experience while quietly setting the foundation for global growth.”

— Heather Saunders, Founder | Principle

Key Features

  • First flagship boutique defining the future retail direction of the brand

  • Designed to balance emotional intimacy with operational clarity

  • Delivered within a listed building with low ceilings and preserved features

  • Spatial planning prioritised privacy, dignity, and generosity for every bride

  • Flagship environment used to inform future global design guidelines

Crux worked closely with Catherine Deane to translate emotional brand values into spatial rules. The layout was designed to ensure each bride had sufficient space for her personal belongings, her chosen dresses, her consultant, and her entourage, without compromise or crowding.

A centralised, womb-like core anchors the boutique, creating a calm point of orientation and reflection as brides move through the experience. Material choices, lighting levels, and acoustics were carefully controlled to soften the environment and remove any sense of pressure or performance.

“Heather has done the most incredible job. She has gone above and beyond our expectations.

— Catherine Deane

Beyond financial uplift, the boutique has become the benchmark against which all future Catherine Deane spaces are measured. Its success directly informed the development of the Catherine Deane Global Retail Design Guidelines, enabling the brand to scale internationally with confidence, clarity, and consistency.

This project demonstrates Crux’s ability to design retail environments that deliver measurable business outcomes, not just aesthetic distinction.

The Catherine Deane Flagship Boutique is not simply a store; it is a strategic commercial asset, proving that when brand, behaviour, and spatial intelligence align, design becomes a catalyst for sustained growth.
