Following the successful delivery of the Phase 1 laboratories, Crux was appointed to lead the design of a significantly expanded laboratory environment on the 5th floor of the same building. By this stage, JLR’s Bangalore operation had evolved into a major engineering centre, requiring increased technical capacity and more sophisticated laboratory infrastructure. Unlike the first phase, this project commissioned as part of a growing laboratory programme.

By the time the 5th floor laboratories were commissioned, JLR’s engineering teams had scaled significantly, and the technical demands placed on the environment had increased. The expanded laboratories needed to support more complex activity while keeping strict safety, compliance, and operational standards.

Crux approached this phase with a clear understanding that laboratory risk sits as much in unseen connections and loads as it does in spatial layout.

The expanded laboratory environment provides a robust, future ready platform supporting JLR’s continued engineering growth in India. The space reflects a mature laboratory strategy that balances technical rigour, safety, and adaptability within a shared commercial building.

This phase reinforced the value of learning led design and set a new benchmark for laboratory delivery within the wider programme.

“A learning-led laboratory design, scaled with precision, safety, and future growth in mind.”

Key Features

  • Expanded laboratory provision within a live, multi tenanted building

  • Equipment led planning shaping layout, servicing, and safety strategy

  • Early identification of power, chemical, weight, and waste requirements

  • Design informed by operational feedback from Phase 1 laboratories

  • Iterative approach refined through real world use and learning

This project demonstrates Crux’s ability to scale laboratory environments intelligently. By combining early technical insight with lessons learned from previous phases, we help clients expand safely, efficiently, and with confidence.

At Crux, laboratory design is treated as a system that evolves alongside people, equipment, and ambition.

By treating the laboratory as an evolving system rather than a static space, Crux delivered a future-ready platform that balances technical rigour, adaptability, and growth for JLR’s Bangalore engineering programme.”
