Crux was appointed to lead the design of a major new laboratory environment for Jaguar Land Rover in Bangalore, supporting the continued expansion of its engineering capability in the region. Design leadership and technical coordination are led from the United Kingdom, working closely with JLR stakeholders and locally appointed delivery partners in India.

This appointment reflects JLR’s continued confidence in Crux’s ability to manage scale, complexity, and technical environments within a fast-evolving innovation programme.

Jaguar Land Rover continues to invest heavily in its Bangalore engineering operation as part of its global innovation strategy. This phase focuses on significantly expanding technical capacity to support advanced development, testing, and validation activity.

The scale and ambition of the project required a design approach that could accommodate immediate technical needs while remaining resilient to change. The objective was not simply to add space, but to create an environment capable of evolving alongside rapidly developing technologies and workflows.

Crux approached the project through early and intensive engagement with engineering stakeholders to understand operational requirements, adjacencies, and constraints without exposing sensitive detail. Spatial planning was informed by equipment envelopes, safety considerations, and servicing logic, ensuring feasibility was embedded from the outset.

“Crux brought a deep understanding of how our engineers actually work, translating complex technical requirements into laboratories that perform reliably from day one. Their early engagement significantly reduced risk and uncertainty.”

Key Features

  • • UK based design leadership supporting a large-scale laboratory expansion in India

    • Independent appointment delivering a complex multi environment technical floorplate

    • Planning shaped around future adaptability and long-term performance

    • Early integration of operational, safety, and services requirements

    • Standardised strategies to support efficient delivery and reduced lifecycle cost

    • Builds on accumulated learning without reliance on prior project knowledge

Standardisation was applied selectively across service strategies, finishes, and technical interfaces to streamline coordination and improve long term maintainability. At the same time, flexibility was retained to allow individual environments to adapt as needs evolve.

The primary challenge of this phase lies in its scale and technical density. Crux built on proven approaches from earlier projects while strengthening coordination across stakeholders, building services teams, and the appointed delivery partner.

UK based design leadership provided consistency and clarity, while close collaboration with the local team ensured the design remained grounded in delivery reality. This balance allowed the project to progress with confidence despite its complexity.

“Designing a lab for the world's finest cars.”

— Former Customer

Scheduled for completion in 2026, the new laboratory environment will form a central part of JLR’s engineering capability in India. The space is designed to support current programmes while providing a robust platform for future innovation and growth.

The project stands as a further example of how long-term partnership, structured learning, and early technical alignment can enable large scale expansion without compromising quality or performance.

This project demonstrates Crux’s ability to lead complex laboratory environments at scale while protecting clarity, adaptability, and long-term value. By maintaining UK based design leadership and working closely with local delivery teams, we help clients expand confidently in high growth regions.

The earlier Crux is involved, the greater the positive impact we can have on feasibility, coordination, and delivery outcomes. Early engagement allows technical ambition and operational reality to be aligned before scale amplifies risk.

At Crux, success is measured not only by what is delivered, but by how effectively environments are designed to evolve over time.
